The 100 MPH warranty actively applies only when flying a correctly sized flag (or no flag at all). A flag acts like a giant, solid sail to Mother Nature.
When winds exceed 50-60 MPH (Tropical Storm force levels), an attached flag captures exponentially more kinetic wind-shear which mathematically multiplies the strain on the pole base.
Before a massive hurricane or extreme storm: Just reach out, click the quick-release clips, drop the flag, and leave the bare Phoenix pole fully extended. It will survive.
