A little maintenance goes a long way. Learn how to clean your flagpole, extend the life of your nylon flag, and keep your display looking spectacular year-round.
Caring for the American Flag
Even the highest quality flags won't last forever when flown 24/7. Wind shear, UV rays, and harsh weather break down nylon fibers eventually. However, proper care can triple a flag's lifespan.
Wash Once a Month
Use mild detergent and cold water to wash the flag on a gentle cycle. Dirt acts like tiny razor blades on the fabric fibers.
Air Dry Only
Never put a nylon flag in a heated dryer. Simply lay it flat or hang it to dry to prevent shrinking and fabric destruction.
Repair Early
If you notice fraying at the fly-end (the edge furthest from the pole), take it down immediately and hem it to stop the spreading.
The "Two-Flag Rotation"
To maximize longevity, we strongly recommend purchasing two flags and swapping them out every month. This simple strategy allows the nylon fibers to relax ("rest") between uses, effectively doubling the lifespan of both flags before they succumb to UV damage and wind tear.

The Phoenix Telescoping Flagpole is made of anodized aerospace aluminum, which requires absolutely zero painting and is completely rust-proof. However, moving parts do require minimal care.
Periodic Cleaning
Dirt, road grime, and salt spray (if coastal) can build up on the outside of the sections. Once every 6 months, simply wipe down the pole with a soft cloth and mildly soapy water. No abrasive chemicals.
Lexan Pin Maintenance
The Securi-Lok internal pins and the Freedom Rings are built to last forever. They do not require lubrication. In fact, do not apply WD-40 or oil, as this attracts dirt which will gum up the mechanisms. Clean with water only.
Winter Freezing
If extreme freezing rain coats the outside of the flagpole, do not try to forcibly collapse the sections. The 100 MPH rating implies you can safely leave it extended through the storm until the ice melts naturally.
